1. Introduction

This website, cdbattaglia.com, is a personal portfolio and blog operated by Christian Battaglia. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding that information.

By using this site, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. This policy should be read alongside our Terms of Service.

2. Information We Collect

Analytics (PostHog)

We use PostHog to understand how visitors interact with the site. PostHog automatically collects:

  • Page views and navigation patterns
  • Click interactions and scroll depth
  • Device type, browser, and operating system
  • Approximate location (country/region level, from IP)
  • Referrer URL

We also capture custom events for feature usage — such as search queries, filter selections, theme changes, and content engagement metrics. PostHog is hosted on PostHog Cloud in the United States.

Spotify Integration

The Music Analyzer page allows you to optionally connect your Spotify account. When you do, we receive your Spotify email address and display name via the Spotify Web API. Your access and refresh tokens are stored in your browser's localStorage and are never sent to our servers. We use your email to identify you in our analytics for a better experience.

Google Sign-In

Certain features (such as the contact page) use Google Sign-In. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and profile name. This information is used solely to authenticate you and enable access to gated features.

Local Storage

We store preferences and state in your browser's localStorage, including:

  • Theme preference (light/dark mode)
  • Retro mode unlock state
  • Achievement progress
  • Spotify authentication tokens

This data never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to any server.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Understand which content resonates with visitors
  • Improve site performance and user experience
  • Enable Spotify playback and music analysis features
  • Authenticate users for gated features (Google Sign-In)

We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising. We do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

This site integrates with the following third-party services:

5. Cookies and Tracking

PostHog sets first-party cookies for session tracking and user identification. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are used on this site. Spotify authentication uses localStorage rather than cookies.

6. Data Retention

Analytics data is retained by PostHog according to their default retention policy. Data stored in your browser's localStorage persists until you clear it manually or clear your browser data.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Clear all localStorage data at any time through your browser settings
  • Disconnect your Spotify account by clicking "Disconnect" on the Music page
  • Request deletion of your analytics data by contacting us
  • Use browser privacy tools or extensions to block analytics

To request data deletion or ask questions about your data, contact us at: Contact email coming soon.

8. Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
